MISCELLANEOUS NEWS
New
  • Meet-the-Clicker: this new feature introduces you to the people who are clicking through your section of the blogroll. Take a moment to head over to their blog and give them some love; especially if they are clicking through your section and even if you belong in another one since they often send in all things they read along the way (Meet-the-Clicker is #1--6 below).
  1. Kymberli of I'm a Smart One shared the origins of her blog's name: My younger sister bought me a t-shirt with a picture of a donkey on it and the saying “I’m a Smart One.” Seeing as how my husband often calls me a smart ass in response to my customary sarcastically funny comments, the shirt was all too appropriate and I loved it so much that I decided to use it for my blog’s name.
  2. She clicks through two categories on the blogroll--IUI/IVF (I-N) and Orals, Suppositories, and Injectibles.
  3. Her IF story in 100 words or less: After TTC naturally for 2.5 years with no success (while watching many of my teenage students’ and my 17-year old sister’s pregnancies), I relented and saw a fertility specialist who diagnosed me with PCOS and prescribed Clomid. I conceived my twins on the 2nd cycle. Later, I also had two singleton Clomid babies. Now I continue to fight IF alongside other couples as a gestational surrogate. I delivered a boy to my first intended parents in March 2007. IVF# 2 with my new couple (from Europe) is in two weeks. This is the last with her eggs; next - ED.
  4. The rest of her world in 100 words or less: I’m an 8th grade Literature teacher. My husband, Frank, was medically retired from the Army in 2001 following his diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis and is now a fantabulous stay-at-home-dad. We’re high school sweethearts, and he has been my rock through everything, especially when I’m so juiced up on hormones that he just bows his head and answers everything with, “Yes, dear.” As of September, we’re also raising my 8-year old nephew. Our life is busy but it is full of love and laughter. I intend to use up every one of my 100 words so this is a pointless sentence.
  5. What is the most useful item in your purse?: Gum. I rarely wear lipstick, can drive without a license, and get money without my wallet, but having a conversation with funky breath is just gross.
  6. Kymberli's question back to you (leave her a comment below): I’m one week away from summer break and I’ll have lots of time on my hands. After reading a year’s worth of kiddie-lit, I need to get back in touch with some quality adult reading. What’s your favorite book and why?
  • Contest: Mrs. Spit is having a whining contest and it's hysterical. Head on over.
  • Face-to-Face Connection: Florida bloggers are meeting this weekend.
  • Face-to-Face Connection: The Metro-Detroit bloggers are starting plans for their get-together.
  • Question: Ten Times Crazier has a question on her blog about eating while nauseated; namely, good food suggestions. If you can help out, click over to her blog.
  • Blog Moving: Are We There Y*t has moved to a new address: http://armsforanangel.wordpress.com/. If you head over there, please do not use any of the names you know from the first blog.
Old
  • Go forth and grab people: let's get more non-IFers to join NaComLeavMo--National Comment Leaving Month (national refers to wherever you're living at the time...), this year's answer to the Commentathon. Okay, more IFers too, but the non-IFers as well.
  • If you notice another loading slow down or receive error messages for Stirrup Queens or Lost and Found, please let me know. Now I'm nervous every time I add anything to the side bar!

Never Let Me Go by Ishiguro. Because it will twist your stomach in knots and make you think for days afterwards. Because it is gorgeous and aching and makes you see the world in an entirely new way.

Or, if you are more of a chicklit woman, I am grooving on Plum Sykes's books. So mindless, so good.

Thanks, Rachel and Mel! I've never been much of a chick lit reader, but reasoning that I like chick flicks, I should probably give some books in that genre a try! I'll pick up a Plum Sykes book and give it a whirl. For some reason, girlishness in print ekes me out a bit, but on the silver screen I'm all over it! Weird.

I'll check out Joanne Harris - thanks for the tips, ladies !

Mel,

I am somewhat afraid to jinx things, but I am looking at a very happy little boy who is finally home after 8 surgeries in 8 weeks (I posted pictures of his wonderful smile). I think we have finally found success!

Thank you so much for all the support during what I have officially dubbed "the weeks from hell." You and everyone who has clicked over to say hello have helped more than you could know. I appreciate everything from the bottom of my heart.

Much love,
Stacie

For Kymberli - I just read through all of Dorothy Dunnett's novels recently. Stunning "historical fiction" that really defies the label. Alexander McCall Smith has some nice, more light-hearted stuff. I also really like PD James and Dorothy Sayers (both mystery writers). Happy summer reading!
