MISCELLANEOUS NEWS
New

  • Calliope is holding a special remembrance today. It is a chance to stop and think about loss on this day that only falls on the calendar once every four years. "If you want to do a February 29th tribute on your blog please check the “participant” box within the comments. This will keep track of all of those using this day to grieve so that we can sit and visit those that need a friend. If you don’t have a blog feel free to share in the comments."
  • Boulder is throwing Akeeyu of herveryown an online baby shower. Click over to Boulder's blog to read about how you can participate--it's very easy; just a few clicks of a button and you can send Akeeyu some much needed love for her new twins (especially after a huge financial blow this year with the bedrest).
  • Live in the Twin Cities area? The Twin Cities IF crowd is meeting in March. Three met in February and they'd like to extend an open invitation to anyone else out there who'd like to come. If you're interested, you can email Baby Steps to Baby Shoes at mrsshoelover@gmail.com or contact her through her blog.

  • If you didn't know already, we set up a peer counselor list for infertility, pregnancy loss, and adoption last year. It's a really helpful starting point if you have a quick question on a certain topic. New people can add themselves at any time--just let me know (I need a name, email address, and which categories)--and we can always start new categories. The list is located on my left sidebar over at Stirrup Queens, above Operation Heads Up. All you do is click on a hyperlinked name and it should open up your email program and you can send them an email. Be sure to put Peer Infertility Counselor in the subject line so they know why you're asking the question.
  • If you notice another loading slow down or receive error messages for Stirrup Queens or Lost and Found, please let me know. Now I'm nervous every time I add anything to the side bar!
NEW BLOGS (started in February or March 2008)
  • None Today.
BIRTHDAYS AND ANNIVERSARIES: Celebrate your birthday or blogoversary with the community. Send me dates for March/April right now and I'll post them on the correct day.

  • Not Imitation Cheese had a third loss this year last week. Please go over and support her on Calliope's day of loss.
MISCELLANEOUS SUPPORT AND CELEBRATIONS: Scary scans, anxious waits, OHSS, and a host of other reasons why these bloggers could use some additional support right now. Also, celebrations!
  • Where To Go From Here? has been fighting to receive her son's Certificate of Birth resulting in Stillbirth, which has been denied to her despite the law established that provide this birth certificate. Please go over and give her support while she waits.
  • And I Have to Remind Myself to Smile has a lot on her plate at the moment. Please go over there and give her a hug.
  • Pee-sticks and Stones had a good and bad news salad. She writes: "Yes, my beta was positive. But it was just 24. The nurse said they’d like to see it about double that at this point—9 days past a 5-day transfer." Please go over and give her support as she waits for the next beta.
BEDREST BABES: on bedrest following infertility or loss and needing support. Drop in on them and keep them company.

This is something I am hugely passionate about (for obvious reasons), and I have written a blog post (the direct url is http://katsbitsandpieces.blogspot.com/2008/02/great-strides-walk.html ) about the walk and asking people to consider sponsoring me and donating through my official and secure CFF sponsored web page. Although infertility is not my main reason for doing this, CF does affect fertility (both male and female). Of course donating is completely optional, I am just trying to let people know it exists. Thanks!"

  • PenchancetoDream has a question: "Well….following on the heels of my miscarriage in December, I’m now in the process of miscarrying from a chemical pregnancy. Because of multiple cysts, we’re going to be doing a natural IUI cycle. I would love to know if anyone on the boards has had luck with a nonmedicated IUI cycle…." You can contact her via her blog.
  • Meg at On the Wrong Side of Statistics has a question about removing a septum. If you can answer her questions, head on over and give her your thoughts.

  • On the topic of movies, it is time for the 4th International Infertility Film Festival. The theme this time is "Finding Out, Letting Go, Realizing." The screening will be on the 29th of March. Let me level with you, I never made a film until Bea kicked my ass for the first festival and told me that there are simple programs out there for making movies. Ours are still frames of Microsoft Paint pictures pulled together in quick succession to create the illusion of movement, but you can also set a series of photos to music or grab the video camera and start interviewing people in the waiting room at your clinic. The choices are endless and Bea (as well as the IIFF site) is a wealth of information on movie making. So if you've been seeking a creative outlet, here is your chance to pull together an entry and enter it in the next IIFF. And go on to fame and fortune.

  • Time sensitive request I received: "I entered a video I made for my wife after we lost our son (stillborn at 8 months) in a short film contest - Rumschpringe: A Very Short Film Competition. Unfortunately it was not selected for inclusion in the festival. However, it can still get in if it wins the popular vote on the film contest's youtube site which you can goto here: http://www.youtube.com/RumschpringeFilmComp. My film is called "Stars," the score is a combination of rating and getting favourited. You may have to create an account to rate and favorite, but it is very easy. Please rate and favorite after you view it. Feel free to forward it to others. Thanks for your help. Any prizes won will be donated to Ephrata's Neonatal Infant Care Unit." My notes: I just watched it. Bring tissues.

  • Julia at Life After Infertility and Loss has a question about Lupron after being diagnosed with adenomyosis: "I am going to be starting up Lupron here shortly as a form of hormonally-induced menopause - I know some women use it as part of ARTs and would like to get some kind of idea what I am potentially looking at side effect wise from someone who has used it. I would be going the Depot injection route - one every 3 months." If you've used Lupron for endo or adenomyosis, please write her through her blog.

  • Joanne (the owner) sent this and another blogger has vouched that it's a good site. "Hello...I want to invite you (and your readers) to the adoption forums at Forever Parents. Forever Parents was created in 2002, first on the the msn boards and then ezboard. We just recently relaunched with our new forums at http://forums.foreverparents.com.
Our community exists to support adoptive and waiting families in a private, friendly setting. For more information, our blog is located at http://foreverparents.blogspot.com/
    Thank you...see you there!"
  • Daisy has a question and needs help: "So I ask you...do you know anyone who has shipped donor embryos or their own embryos outside of the US to be transferred in another country, for these reasons (to circumvent the FDA) or for cost reasons (cheaper in Canada or Mexico), or just because they had the procedure done in another country and want their embryos with them?" If you go to her blog, you can read this situation but involves another couple who want to donate their embryos to her and cannot due to botched timing on blood work. Please help her if you can answer her question or forward this on to anyone you know familiar with embryo donation laws.
  • Nancy is conducting a poll on mood swings and drugs (no...not those kinds of drugs...just injectibles). Head over and give her your thoughts either in the comment section or on the sidebar polls.
  • Lyrecha finished her book proposal! For those who didn't know, she is writing a book about type 1 diabetes and pregnancy. If you are diabetic or know someone diabetic who has been pregnant, passing along this information from her blog: "In the meantime, if you want to be interviewed about type 1 and pregnancy, if the book actually becomes a reality, shoot me an email (Lyrehca AT gmail DOT com) and I'll keep your info on file."

  • Here's a little trick to searching the site that I will add to the lead-in for every post. If you want to see if your news was announced a while ago or find an old post where you're listed, go to a google search bar and cut-and-paste these words, replacing the "searchwordhere" with your term (check under your blog's name as well as however your name is listed on your blog) :
site:http://lostandfoundandconnectionsabound.blogspot.com/ searchwordhere

example:
site:http://lostandfoundandconnectionsabound.blogspot.com/ Calliope

(this would take you to old times that Creating Motherhood was mentioned. I'd also try the search with your blog name since I'm inconsistent in the way I list things. And mind how spaces appear in the line)
  • By the way, that trick works with every site if you're ever trying to find an old post from someone.
  • Michell is looking for some information about hormone levels and meds in regards to IVF. Could you head over there and answer her questions, pretty-please?
  • AMS has set up a fund for anyone who was looking for something active to do in terms of supporting Lennox and Zoe. "We've set up a memorial fund for Lennox and ZoĆ« to raise money for neonatal research at Cook Children's Hospital. I've put all of the information on http://sweetzoe.bastetweb.com. I don't want anyone to feel like they HAVE to donate, but several people have asked if there was something they could do and this would mean a lot to us. "
